_ GLOBAL APOCALYPSE _
APOCALYPSE NOW

This series of articles does not reference the "signs of
the apocalypse" outlined in the Book of Revelations.
Though that Christian belief cannot be fully discounted.
Thus, as an information specialist, I constantly seek to
confirm or disprove the Biblical prophesy. That aside,
there remains an ever present danger. Not a doom for
humanity. But, the downfall of civilization. Daily life
as we know it hinges on energy along with the constant
supply of goods moving around the world.
So given the ominous events of the past few years these
articles will outline the worse case scenarios and
suggest some possible survival strategies. The first
article in this series has already been written ("2012")
and suggests "the apocalypse" may come as soon as the
end of this year or the beginning of the next. I think
many crazy people would tend to agree. Though hopefully
you will see that I am not one of those.
Still prophesy or no prophesy, I feel "The Apocalypse"
is inevitable. Its the nature of humanity that leads me
to this conclusion. Not prophesy or pessimism. Moreover
I like to believe that I am neither optimist nor
pessimist, but realist. Though as a journalist it is
problematic to put things in absolute terms. So to
preface my statement:
Human nature is extremely hard to overcome. Thus an
apocalyptic future is the MOST LIKELY outcome.
More to the point, the word "apocalypse", which
originally meant "revelation", is now synonymous with
cataclysm. Also being a more secular term it commonly
replaces the Biblical term of "Armageddon". Here again
popular usage and misconception come into play. Should
the end of civilization result from a world wide
conflagration it is highly UNLIKELY that it will end as
a result of one massive land battle.
Prophesy says that a million soldiers from many nations
will descend upon the final battlefield (Megiddo, Israel
..aka. Armageddon). At that time all will be decided --
have you ever heard of cluster bombs? Tight massive
formations are things of the past. No modern general
would be so foolish. Then again we are discounting the
supernatural forces leading the effort.
Israel, on the other hand, weighs heavily in the wave of
current events pushing humanity towards world war. Even
today (Jul. 19, 2012) a suicide attack killed several
Israeli civilians. The one mitigating factor ... the
bombing was in Europe. Though as stated in my "2012"
article, the upcoming U.S. presidential election may be
the deciding factor in an Israeli first strike. Though
it was not specifically stated, a solid Republican
victory may embolden Israeli hawks. A prelude to the
"end times".
Other threats include a global economic crash or the
always unpredictable North Koreans. Less obvious, but
growing in severity is the political rift opened during
the contested 2000 U.S. presidential election when
George Bush won the presidency through a spilt decision
in the U.S. Supreme Court. Unexpectedly the high court
exacerbated the rift through its controversial "Citizens
United" decision. Now, like the congress, the favorable
ratings for the once venerable institution have slipped
considerably.
Unfortunately it is still too early to know how the
obscene amounts of political advertising money afforded
through "Citizens.." will affect the American social
structure. Though suffice it to say that the amount of
political negativity has already increased. Now given
the economic malaise combined with the growing political
rancor U.S. domestic protest could grow to heights not
seen since the 1960s.
That in itself would not be cause for concern, but given
the spread of protest during the "Arab Spring"
widespread protest in the United States could lead to
worldwide chaos. And while supply disruptions of food
and consumer goods would be troublesome, oil (and
energy) remains the lynch pin. The harder it becomes for
people to go to work, the more protests will follow.
Chaos will beget chaos. Class, race, and ethnic
struggles will multiply and the wheels of progress will
stop.
The Bible says the end "will come as a thief in the
night", yet more than 2000 years later electronic
surveillance systems watch every part of globe. Further
given that leaders can hardly "pass gas" without a
Twitter or Facebook feed it seems unlikely that major
events could snowball without warning. So take heed ...
9/11 was a wake up call. The world is a tinder box ready
go. And while divine intervention may forestall or
eradicate an apocalypse human nature proves time and
again that it is difficult to live in harmony.
Therefore in view of such dire possibilities I will
publish a series of articles -- Apocalypse 101 -- to
enumerate the threats and give survival tips. First and
foremost, start a technical library ..... BOOKS,
magazines, anything paper!! Electronics will be the
first casualty in the fall of civilization.
