(Saturday) a half day of drilling in the hot Texas sun. Afterwards Marie and I watched "Rock the Kasbah" staring Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel, and Kate Hudson. This movie was one of Marie's selections and not exactly the one I wanted to debut on our new big screen TV. Surprisingly the foreign cast was a great compliment to the all star American cast. We both found the film enjoyable.

Our viewing timetable, while purely coincidental, promotes further comment ... Given the news of late it seems that Afghanistan (the setting of the movie) is going back to war ... Big surprise ... Personally I would rather see a full U.S. withdrawl. Bring all of our troops home and let the Afghans work out their own issues. We have enough to deal with the "war" between Republicans and Democrats.

On a more lighter note. It seems that Hollywood has substituted quantity for quality forcing Marie and I to pull movies off the shelf. After dinner we are going to watch the "The Color Purple". A selection more fitting for BIG SCREEN viewing. Again, one of Marie's selections and one she insists should have won the Academy Award instead of "Out of Africa". I've never seen "The Color Purple" so it will be interesting to compare our taste in award winning film.

(addendum 11-10-19) As with everything I write, a bit of editing made this entry more readable; In the two months since the original post no major news from Afghanistan. Then again the winds of winter always slow that place down. As for the Academy Award and "The Color Purple", the Best Picture nomination was right on the money. The cinematography, the acting, and the screenplay were all first rate. Only a dark story line separates it from "Out of Africa".
