It is hard to compare 1972 movie sound quality to that of the 21st century, but I have seen a number of movies from that time and the sound was fine. Not so much in this movie.

Marlon Brando was nominated for a best actor award. All I can say is ... politics. It was very hard to understand Brando in many of the scenes. His French was never spoken with much zeal and his pillow talk... mumbles. Further, the storyline had his character in twisted conflict. It seemed overdone. The final scene was the best part of the whole movie and helps explain some of the missing story.
