storyline: Brilliant choreographer and film editor, Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), gets through the day on prescription pills, booze, packs of cigarettes and sex. Unfortunately his years of excess has come at a cost to his health and his marriage. It has brought trouble with his teenage daughter and alienated his girlfriend.

The opening scene has Joe Gideon selecting dancers for a new Broadway musical starring his ex-wife. During the process he gets the phone number of a lovely new prospect. In the days that follow it keeps getting tougher to put a new show together, edit a failing film, and keep the women (plural) in his life happy.

As the health problems mount the strain puts Gideon in the hospital and in the waiting room with the Angel of Death; A very lovely Jessica Lange. When the Broadway Show begins to suffer the producers seek a new director (John Lithgow).

Meanwhile Gideon's film, "the Comic", flops after a long awaited release. Prompting a great scene as Gideon's girlfriend and daughter put on a private dance routine to cheer him up.

This music & dance extravaganza is one of my all-time favorites ... right now, in fact ... "It's show time."

(personal comment) I had my mom & step dad over for dinner to watch this movie on VHS with me and my fiancee. A double date of sorts. Now, 35 years later, I can see my personality being established through this movie selection. The complicated artistic undertones that would supplement my intellectual pursuits approximately 3 years before the decision was made to become an INFORMATION BROKER / INFORMATION SPECIALIST.
