Before the glass ceiling is the class ceiling. Breaking through often means breaking the rules and nowhere is
tougher than New York City.
The stock brokers in Manhattan are part of the upper class and often part of the leisure class. So to get the
job done they rely on the working class. The multitudes that commute across the East River from Brooklyn.
While only a river separates Brooklyn from Manhattan they are, in fact, worlds apart. After being screwed by
her boss and screwed by her live-in boyfriend, much comedy ensues when Tess McGill (Melanie Griffith) decides
to cross over.
In her opening play for the big time Tess inadvertently lands in the bed of Jack Trainer (Harrison Ford).
Though an attraction exists Tess still has feelings for her cheating boyfriend. As the trouble mounts it will be
difficult for love to find a way between these two worlds.
