Spoiler ALERT - this is not a romantic comedy!

This is a 20-something female finding adult responsibility and passion. Basically a female "The Karate Kid" in Japanese. Be warned the people do occasionally speak fast, but the Japanese is only really important to the story towards the end. Brittany's character just talks and talks regardless that no one understands her. Thus the comedic setups. Ultimately this movie affirms that empathy transcends culture and language.

RIP. Brittany you did good work!
