THE LONE RANGER
(c) 2013 __ rated- PG-13
[ COMEDY - western ]
-- TV series - REVISITED
starring: Johnny Depp
GOOD + : as rated by DR-KNOW
Because popular movie reviews labeled this movie a flop, a dud, a don't bother;
My wife and I waited to buy this movie until the price bottomed out (previewed
selection - 2 movies for $5). The popular critics accused Johnny Depp of artistic
overreach for playing a Native American. They criticized his costume ... I'm here
to tell you different ... so much for the movie industry talking heads!
The moive is called "The Lone Ranger", but was stolen by his "Native American"
sidekick, Tonto. Depp plays Tonto and did an outstanding job. His deadpan humor was
spot on with laugh out loud physical humor. That portion of the movie carried the
Disney production trademark. Although little else would remind you that this was a
Disney movie except Depp's costume which was exceptional and smart - perhaps that's
why the "professional" reviewers missed the mark. In fact the whole movie was smart.
Fans of the orignal "Lone Ranger" and wholesome Disney goers may have been dismayed
that the movie failed to follow the TV series where a thousand bullets fly and no one
gets killed. Consequently this movie in not for 5 year olds ... may be 10 & up... and
up. The brutal killing of a posse near the start of the movie and a house of ill fame
as the action builds likely put parents off.
This movie really got overlooked by a zero attention span populace that texts while
watching. "Smart" movie elements require attention. If you do not want to pay attention
much of the story will die and this would not be the movie for you.
