As mentioned in a previous article Blockbuster Video closed their remaining stores. That means no more DVD movie backer cards will be produced and many people like myself bought all that we could during the store closings. Movie backer cards are 5 1/2 inches wide by 8 inches tall although smaller cards were produced in 2012 & 2013. These collector items bring back the nostalgia of bubble gum trading cards from decades ago but display much more readily.

These cards were used as place holders when the movies where rented out allowing costumers to see how many were available and providing a location for restocking when the movie was returned. Most of the "DVD backer cards" are movie poster miniatures made of thick cardboard with the smaller cards noticably thinner. Successful older movies likely had backer cards made of plastic. I have cards for movies that date to the 1960s. These cards were primarily produced for movies rented by Blockbuster in from 2005 to 2013, but again cards for older popular movies were also produced.

In general the best movies have the best cover art, but not always. Some times a cheesey dude has excellent art work. So I have added an art work rating to my movie reviews to alert you to a potentially good find. Some of these cards are selling on Ebay and some through collectables sites. I too am selling part of my collection. Unfortunately I do not have "shopping cart" technology so you will have to send me an EMAIL to tell me which ones you want.
