The main character, Bo Dennis (early thirties) is a very attractive, dark haired bartender turned detective. Her "oddities" are a mystery. She doesn't know she belongs to a race of mythical creatures (FAE) that use various methods for extracting sustenance from humans. Mostly it's energy based like feeding on adulation, stealing luck, extracting from the enraged, but it's also cooking or basic "raw" consumption. Bo's method of "feeding" involves sexual encounters that can drain anyone to the point of death. Not that it's a bad way to go and leaves people smiling thru the ordeal. Still she has no clue why her lovers keep dying.

So for years she was lost, confused, and alone. An unfortunate trail of dead bodies led her into an itinerant, ramshackle existence. Through most of the series she lives in abandoned buildings. In the opening scene Bo is bartending at a local pub. Once again she is forced to move after a messy "feed" left a body public. Not an unfortunate lover this time, Bo had drained a sexual predator to save a young woman. A high-spirited girl named Kenzie. As a society wanting to remain "hidden" the messy kill alerted the FAE to Bo's presence. Still, she was as much a mystery to them as they to her. Following some harsh interrogation, it was obvious that Bo was unaligned and one of the very few Fae to be raised by humans.

Now she not only had her first friend in years, but others of her own kind to help navigate her through this new existence. Together Bo & Kenzie uncover the width and breadth of the FAE. Leaving Bo to straddle the two main factions and the occasional lover. Through the detective agency Bo & Kenzie fight villains, find heroes, and attempt to earn an honest living. As the series progresses the wide variety of Fae and under-fae create numerous storylines. Some, an end in themselves, while the more memorable characters have recurring roles. With each adventure and romantic encounter Bo struggles to find her true nature and mystery of her birth parents.

The cast of mostly 30-somethings brings an air of maturity with some youthful antics. Further, with Bo as a sex-hungry succubus the series displays copious amounts of skin, but no real nudity. Again, given her nature and voracious appetite, Bo is bisexual with a variety of female and male lovers. Also as the series main protagonist, women often play the lead in each episode. Leaving men in supporting roles. As a final note, the episodes are often very funny offering fantasy, action, and comedy. A gem at the top of the genre.
