The series begins with a worldwide blackout lasting for 2 minutes and 38 seconds. More important than the chaos that followed is the life like dream people experienced. Everyone seemed to jump in time almost two years in the future.

An FBI agent about to arrest a terrorist with a dirty bomb "blacks out", along with the rest of the globe, and sees himself heading up the investigation into the cause of the blackout.
